College of Horticulture

       A combination of horticulture department of Shanghai Fudan University established in 1938 and horticulture of Shenyang Agricultural College founded in 1949, horticulture department of SYAU was set up hand in hand with SYAU in the year of 1952. On June, 16th, 2001, the past horticulture department of SYAU was renamed College of Horticulture, SYAU.
       Initiated in 1952, SYAU’s College(Department) of Horticulture has been a backbone college (department) of SYAU. Currently, the College one first level doctoral and master’s degree granting authorization for horticulture, four second level doctoral and master’s degree granting authorizations for specialties including vegetable science, pomology, ornamental horticulture and protected horticulture and one independent horticulture post-doctoral flow station. Vegetable science and pomology have been respectively listed as national and provincial key disciplines of institutions of higher education. The College can also grant bachelor degree for horticulture and pratacultural science. Part of the College is occupied by 5 teaching and research section for vegetable farming, fruit growing, horticulture plant breeding, ornamental horticulture and practaculture, as well as  a comprehensive horticulture laboratory, a research institute for horticultural science and a horticultural science and technology development center. Besides, the College is equipped with fruit tree experimental garden (for grape, strawberry, apple, hawthorn, raspberry, pear and etc.), flower experimental garden, vegetable experimental garden for protected horticulture and vegetable farming and breeding, and teaching and research base for edible fungi, covering a total area of 34 hectares. 
     Presently, a faculty of 64 teachers is working for the College of Horticulture, including 14 professors, 20 associate professors and 10 teachers with intermediate technical tiles. Since the founding of SYAU, the College of Horticulture has produced more 2,400 undergraduates and over 200 postgraduates and Ph.D graduates. Within the recent 20 years, the College has hosted an array of research projects of various levels including 16 national level project and 54 provincial level ones. More than 70 research findings and achievements have been through evaluation, among which 7 are of international advanced level, 15 are of leading domestic level and more than 30 have reached domestic advanced level. More than 600 academic papers by faculties of the College can be found in national academic journals and 35 publications on international academic journals are authored by teachers of the College. Over 90 monographs and 30 textbooks are also contribution made by the College’s faculties in the field of horticulture.
