College of Land and Environment

       College (Department) of Land and Environment, combined by former Department of Agrochemistry of Fudan University and Department of Soil and Fertilizers of Northwestern Agricultural College, enjoys the same length of history with SYAU. On June 16th, 1997, with the approval of Ministry of Agriculture, it was renamed College of Land and Environment.  
     The College has two first level doctoral degree granting authorizations for Agricultural Resources and Environment, and Environmental Science and Engineering, a post-doctoral flow station for Agricultural Resources and Environment, five second level master’s and doctoral degree granting authorizations for Soil Science, Plant Nutrition, Land Utilization and Information Technology, Agricultural Environment and Ecology and Water Resources and Agricultural Water-saving. Soil Science and Plant Nutrition are listed respectively as national and provincial key disciplines. In 2010, Plant Nutrition was listed as provincial “advanced discipline”specially aimed to become national key disciplines. There are environmental sciences and environmental engineering as two secondary disciplines and environmental chemistry as an independently added discipline attached to Environmental Science and Engineering and they are able to grant master’s degrees of environmental engineering and environmental chemistry. Besides, master’s degrees can also be granted for Microbiology and Land Resources Management. The college has four bachelor degree granting programs and they are Agricultural Resources and Environment, Land Resources Management, Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science.  
      College of Land and Environment has a strong team of faculty engaged in teaching and research. Currently, there are 74 faculty members in the College including 60 teachers and researchers, 7 tutors and 7 administrative staff. 80% of the faculty have doctoral degrees and there 17 professors, 22 associate professors, 14 doctoral supervisors, 5 part-time doctoral supervisors and 32 master’s supervisors. Among them, there are one two recipients of State Council Special Allowance, one member of disciplinary council of the State Council Academic Degree Committee, one young and middle-aged expert with outstanding contribution to Ministry of Agriculture, one Liaoning Provincial Excellent expert, 11 selected for “hundred, thousand and ten thousand talent program”, one selected for Liaoning “climbing scholar program”, two Liaoning provincial specially invited professors, five “young excellent”teachers.  
       Since the founding of SYAU, College of Land and Environment has produced 4712 graduates, including 3653 undergraduates, 240 vocational graduates, 590 postgraduates, 110 on-job postgraduates, 90 Ph.D holders and 29 post-doctoral researchers. The current enrollment of 1244 students consists of 736 undergraduates, 250 master’s candidates, 122 on-job master’s candidates, 95 doctoral candidates and 21 post-doctoral researchers.   
       Since the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, College of Land and Environment has undertaken 59 scientific research projects, of which 32 projects are supported by national “863”,”973”, “National Science and Technology Support Plan” and “Natural Science Foundation of China and 27 projects are of provincial level. Among the 24 approved research findings, 6 have reached international leading level. More than 900 academic papers have been published in national and international academic journals. Entrusted by Soil Science Society of China, since 1957 the College have been editing and publishing Chinese Journal of Soil Science, which has very important position in the field of soil science both at home and abroad.
