College of Food Science has been a late-born but fast-growing member of Shenyang Agricultural University since its foundation in 1994. Now it is a home to 3 departments ( Food Science and Engineering Department, Packaging Engineering Department, Food Quality and Safety Department) and 4 research centers and institutes (Provincial Key Lab of Produce Processing, Provincial Research Center of Produce Processing Engineering, Provincial Food Quality and Safety Institute, Provincial Training Center of Food Science Education Project ), with a team of 48 intelligent and diligent engineers and scientists, including 8 professors and 9 associate professors. The research and curriculum span a breadth of topics from the storage, transportation, intensive processing and further processing (including biotechnology) to quality inspection and control of various food materials, such as vegetables, fruits, milk, meat, cereals and so on.
Since the 10th National Five-year Plan of China, Food Science College has hosted more than 100 academic programs from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Science and Technology, etc. and was awarded many times for the brilliant work of its staff. Nowadays, it is in the leading position in China in the fields of engineering bacteria transgenic technology, rapid-determination technology of pesticide residues, fresh-keeping processing technology of vegetable and fruits and bioactive components extraction and processing technology of dairy.
