College of Engineering, former Department of Agricultural Mechanization of Shenyang Agricultural College, was founded in 1956. At present, it has “the agricultural engineering” the Post-doctoral flow station and “the agricultural engineering” first-level discipline doctorate authorization spot. The college also has second-level discipline doctorate authorization spots for disciplines including agricultural mechanization engineering, agricultural biological environment and energy engineering, agricultural mechanical system theory and design, agricultural equipment engineering technology and etc. The first-level discipline, agricultural engineering, was awarded the provincial first-level discipline in 2008. There are 5 master’s degree authorization spots in the college, consisting of agricultural mechanization engineering, mechanical design and theory, agricultural biological environment and energy engineering, agricultural mechanical system theory and design and agricultural equipment engineering technology. Professional degrees of engineering and agricultural extension are also conferrable in College of Engineering. The college’s bachelor degree programs are agricultural mechanization and its automation, mechanical design and manufacturing and automation, agricultural building environment and energy engineering, communication and transportation, agricultural engineering and building environment and equipment engineering. With current 50 doctoral candidates,100 master’s candidates,50 professional master’s candidates and 1,100 undergraduates on campus, College of Engineering has so far cultivated over 4,000 undergraduates, more than 400 postgraduates and 50 plus Ph.Ds.
Authorized by government to confer its master’s and doctoral degree in 1984 and 1990, respectively, the college’s agricultural mechanization was listed as Liaoning provincial key discipline since 1997. In 2004, “agricultural machinery design and manufacture” master’s candidate cultivation base was approved by Liaoning provincial government to be set up in College of Engineering. In 2007, agricultural mechanization laboratory was awarded provincial key laboratory by Liaoning provincial education authorities. In 2009, agricultural mechanization and its automation was rated as provincial model discipline and in 2010, it was listed as national characteristic specialty, with one provincial quality course and one provincial honor teacher.
Initiated in 1984, Agricultural biological environmental and energy engineering was one of the earliest established disciplines in China’s rural energy field. It obtained master’s and doctorate authorization spots in 1987 and 2000 and has Northeast China cold area comprehensive energy demonstration base and north China work station of methane product and equipment supervision, inspection and testing center. In 2010, the laboratory for this discipline was included as one of the provincial key laboratory by provincial education authorities.
College of Engineering has a total laboratory area of 5,000 square meters where locate more than 60 sets of experimental apparatus and equipments, worth more than 120 million RMB in all. Besides, there are also 13 teaching and research bases on or off the campus belonging to College of Engineering. Currently, a faculty of 68 teachers is working for College of Engineering, among whom 10 are professors, 7 doctoral supervisors, 17 master’s supervisors. 84% of the teachers have got doctoral degrees or master’s degrees. There are 5 teachers serving as editorial board members for national first class and core journals. Since 2008, College of Engineering has obtained scientific research fund up to 176.52 million RMB, undertaking 78 scientific research projects.
With a troop of teachers noted for high academic level, education and reasonable age structure, the faculty of College of Engineering are engaged in improving talent cultivation quality and scientific prowess, deepening teaching reform, strengthening disciplinary construction, building stronger teaching staff and educating more people.
