College of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine was established in 1958, originally named the department of animal science and veterinary medicine. The famous agricultural educationist, Zhang Kewei, was the founder as well as the first dean of the college. Now the president is Prof. Jianmin Hu, who graduated from Tokyo University after getting his doctoral degree, and the Secretary of Party General Branch is Associate Prof. Zhang Chunkai.
Currently, the college consists of four bachelor degree programs including animal science, veterinary, aquaculture, animal pharmacy, 8 teaching and research sections, 5 master degree programs including animal nutrition and feedstuff, animal Genetics, breeding and reproduction, basic veterinary, clinical veterinary and preventive veterinary, among which animal nutrition and feedstuff and basic veterinary are key disciplines of Liaoning province. There are also two professional master degree programs including master degree in agriculture extension and veterinary medicine. There is one provincial teaching team，one provincial demonstration specialty，one provincial famous teacher, two university level demonstration specialties, one university level experimental teaching center, one provincial excellent courses, five university level excellent courses in the college. The experimental teaching center of Animal science is in charge of experimental teaching work. There are more than 35 teaching and research bases including a research institute of embryo engineering, a Shenyang technical service center of embryo engineering, a feed research center, a pannage research institute, a hog pen and a chicken house for research, a veterinary clinical hospital, a assessment center of new feed and feed additives validity set by the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as the Liaoning Province Center for Control and Prevention of Animal Infectious Disease.
Presently, the college has 83 faculty members including 10 professors, 22 associate professors, 6 senior experimentalists, 43 doctor degree holders.
