On August 31st, Dr. Guo Linhai, information analyst, project leader as well as (spatial) ecologist and Dr. Matthew P. Bolton, specialist from Department of Environment, Australia were invited to visit SYAU. During their visit, they were joined by faculties and graduate students of College of Land and Environment, SYAU, discussing the latest advances in the fields of land utilization, landscape ecology and environmental sciences, natural resources and ecological environment protection and delivered an academic presentation respectively with the topics being A Collaborative Australian Protected Area Database andNational Vegetation Information System (NVIS).
Dr. Guo Linhai, had worked with Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, before he went to study and work in countries like Holland, U.S., New Zealand, and Australia. With research interests focusing broadly on environmental information, geographic information systems analysis and spatial ecological systems, ecological resources management and protection, ecological agriculture, natural resources, biodiversity protection, landscape ecology, macro-ecological environment and planning and analysis of polices on sustainable development of resources, Dr. Guo has won numerous prizes including winner of distinguished overseas landscape ecologist and being selected in the Ten Outstanding Young Chinese in New Zealand and he now also serves as executive director and vice chairman of Canberra Division of Australia-China Friendship Association as a concurrent post.
Dr. Matthew P. Bolton got his PhD in Biology from University of Queensland and has been working for the Department of Environment, Australia for more than two decades. He specializes his research in fields such as Australian environment, resources and ecological protection and is a prestigious specialist in vegetation ecological information systems.
